In 1967 founder Bill Austin started a small hearing aid repair shop after dropping out of medical school; by 1970, he had bought ear mould company Starkey Labs and began manufacturing hearing aids for the first time. Starkey has always been at the cutting-edge of hearing aid technology, and shortly after their founding became the first in the industry to offer a 90-day trial period for their hearing aids.

Their reputation skyrocketed when President Ronald Reagan started wearing their devices in 1983, and in the years since Starkey has helped a great many famous figures, including five United States presidents, two popes, Mother Teresa and Nelson Mandela – as well as millions of other customers.
